In Dragons of Eden, Carl Sagan writes about the evolution of the human brain, and covers neuroanatomy and neurobiology quite thoroughly, though briefly, in relation to the larger context of the book.
Apparently, liberals are you typical right-brainers in that they exhibit all the symptoms of right-brain dominance. They are generally creative, emotional, and imaginative. Few people will debate this point, since most artists, poets, animal lover, environmentalists, peace activists and such are generally liberal beyond doubt. But right brain dominance also carries other traits, such as paranoia, schizophrenia, delusions of persection, and a propensity to believe in conspiracies. Apparently the creative side of the mind has a light side and a dark side.
Left dominant people, on the other hand, tend to be more humorless, analytic, dispassionate, logical, and pragmatic. The left side of the brain is not so much good vs. evil as it is practical, sometimes to a fault.
Most people are fairly balanced, but some, just a few, are unbalanced, and that's where we get madness. And Democrats.

I wish I had studied nerobiology, but I have gleaned some interesting tidbits from various sources, and what I have learned is enlightening.
