Bob Novak Calls Carville for What He IS

So, the blogosphere is active today. Bob Novak reacted to a statement by James Carville by calling is Bull*twinkies*. After doing so, he calmly stood up, removed his microphone, and exited stage left. Over in the "reality-based" side of the blogosphere (and they call it that with a straight face) they're saying he "stormed off" or "went nuts," which is nothing like the truth.

The most beautiful thing about the whole story to me? Bob Novak publicly called James Carville on his vocal output. Was Carville spouting BS? Of course he was. Everything he says is BS. One has to wonder whether Carville really believes that what he says is true, or if he's just a professional BS artist.

I've made up MY mind on that one.

Looks like Bob Novak won’t be back on CNN an time soon after he walked off a set after being rudely interrupted by James Carville (again), and only after calling Carville’s ramblings what they are - bull***. Lockjaw says Novak was just ca... [Read More]

James Carville is gross and it is even hard for me to look at him. Hooray for Novak, he is a hero!

Good for Bob Novak! Carville is a sleezey conduit for the slash and burn politics that were "aggressively" used during the Clinton administration (of which he orchistrated along with Paul Bagala)and is still going strong with the losing party (Democrats). As an Independent, I have been forced to drop the Democratic party from my choices in any election. I doubt they will ever clean up their act.

BS is hardly swearing.
I am not a fan of Novak but he occasionally is right.
This whole matter is overdone.
Let's get on with a good exchange in the give and take free flowing.

Go get em James.

You can call Mr. Carville a BS'er, but he has not put in danger the life of an "american" CIA operative, that was serving us, the american people, she was not serving Republicans or Democrats. It is scary that the righ-wingers have dismiss this leak, as nothing serious. I'm starting to loose respect for anybody, that is defending these people involve in the leak. How can you defend putting in danger the life of an american sevice-woman, just for political gain. Republicans/Radicals/Racist ect.. are starting to loose sence.. Next election my vote will go, for whoever go against the republicans (sorry McCain).

Carville spouts BS? They both do , the entire show is about spin ... its entertainment. Novak got bested by Carville and cracked. Maybe Novak is taking himself too seriously, Bob you're a talking head and a spin doctor, if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. It will be interesting to see if the FCC fines CNN and Novak they way they do Howard Stern. Funny, but I really doubt the Administration, excuse me, the FCC will dole out any fines for Novak's childish and obscene behavior.

Good for Novak, These clintonestas are a dime a dozen around the Alphabet Soup networks. Time for someone to deck 'carville.' He is the alter ego of der schlickmeister as der schlickmeister doesn't have the "brass" to do defend our Country. ie/ the first World Trade Center bombing, bombing of the Cole, bombing of our Embassies, bombing of our Marine Barracks, etc, AND killing innocent children at WACO. Yet these people want "the hildabeast" as President? Did she leave some furniture and silver she wants?

Posted by: Jackie at August 5, 2005 10:05 AM

Carville "baits" people with the intent of causing them to lose their "cool". He's good at it. I wonder how Mary Matlin stands it?

Posted by: Mel Everingham at August 5, 2005 10:10 AM

What is real bulls**t is the fact that a reporter sits in jail while Novak doesn't answer a single question. He and Carl Rove should be tried for treason exposing every CIA who worked with Ms. Plame to potential death.

Posted by: Herman at August 5, 2005 10:11 AM

Is Carville a bull*#%$er? Of course he is, not that it is releavnt. Especially since he is no worse than Novak, who is a disgusting waste of human chromosones, a man so lacking in integrity that he chose to pretend that Carville's comments were the reason he walked off rather than the fact that questions about why he chose to play such a slimy part in the regime's game were about to be asked of him.

Posted by: MS718 at August 5, 2005 10:22 AM

Not that it matters but just FYI... Novak exited stage RIGHT, not stage LEFT. Stage directions are from the performer's point of view, not the audiences. :)

Right or Left, he's still nuts.

The truth is that Novak, like most conservative commentators, can dish it it but can not take it. He has no problem at all in shredding others in his own mean sprited way. Novak's talents would be better suited to the Fox Network.

The idea that a journalist can calmly remove his mic, walk off camera in the middle of programming, and talking heads refer to it as anything but outrageously unprofessional, is remarkable. Liberals may go overboard by referring to his actions as "storming out," but let us not fall victim to that wonderful hill of propoganda, aptly named Mount Misdirection. The fact of the matter is that Bob Novak's actions further highlight his unprofessionalism, cowardice, and lack of credibility.

The Real Republican

James Carville has seen it all in Washington and knows more than we "civilians!" Novak is guilty of complicity in outing a CIA operative. He is also a Bush whore who says and does anything that Rove, Cheney, BushII and Bush I tell him to do. Yes, I think he is cracking under the pressure. The law has been broken, people's lives are in danger and he can no longer sit on his well "patriotic and paid" behind! CNN did the right thing and I hope they will continue to do the right thing as Novak and his colleagues are uncovered. The press has rights, but Novak isn't one of them.

Posted by: Toni Walton at August 5, 2005 11:21 AM

Novak's exposure as a phony had to come sonner or later. Novak is a poor excuse for a journalist because his consistantly bias point of view undermines his own arguments. Too sad, too bad. FOX Network, here he comes.

James Carville is a narcissitic abomination. I don't know why anyone would want to be on the same stage with him. His modus operandi is to belittle anyone who happens to disagree with him. He is the General Sherman of words; he destroys and burns everything in his path. Public discourse is not possible with the evil Mr. Carville.

If you don’t believe every thing that comes out of George W. Bush’s mouth, you will become a Communist and murder unborn babies. Do you want to become a Communist? Do you want to murder unborn babies? Of course you don't. But if you don’t do exactly what he tells you to do and think the way he thinks, you will do both of these things and more. You will smoke reefer, you will march in those evil peace rallies with filthy hippies and Satanic liberals, you'll even start hugging trees and dating ethnic minorities. See how insidious this demonic liberal media is? Your very eternal soul is at stake, my friend! Do you want to risk an eternity roasting in the flames of eternal hellfire? Then for God's sake, don't think for yourself! You have been WARNED!

Treason seems to be a word taken lightly these days. I do not see how any act which endangers the life of an American serving our country in a foreign land can be swept away and allowed to be "spun". It is an act by it's very nature, grievous and heinous. Treason carries with it the ultimate penalty, death. Even more appalling is the arrogance demonstrated by those involved. A truly great leader would deal with this breech with steely resolve. One would have to go all the way back to the Nixon administration in order to revisit this level of arrogance. The paralells are unending. An unpopular war, high war/election ratings followed by scandal. Will this scandal have the lasting effect that Watergate did? I doubt it. During the Nixon years the media/administration were bitter enemies. The extent of media complicity in this scandal is vast and may take years to uncover. We may never know. As the republicans attempt to downplay the facts our democracy has never looked more hideous.

I’m sorry I must have seen a different video, because the one I witnessed showed Mr. Novak throwing his arms in the air as he said B/S. Does he have a right to blow off steam? Will sure he does, but not at the expense of a news network. What Novak did was simply unprofessional. And yes Carville does mouth off time to time, of course I do agree what he says, but it does come off as unprofessional. Although they don’t call him the “Rage’N Cajun” for nothing. Yet with that aside, two wrongs don’t make a right and I believe Mr. Novak showed the audience weakness. Further more I agree what Mr. Carville said to Novak, republicans have a Napoleon complex and fell the need to impose their ideology on to others. But back to the topic on hand, Mr. Novak should have handled the situation better, letting his emotions get the best of him simply shows weakness. Like athletes we see public figures with a certain nobleness that we hope exists, yet time and time again we are coming to learn that professionalism is taking a back seat to the self riotous. Hell, just look inside the White House.

Neither Novak nor Carville is trying to engage in public discourse of any kind. It's all just a form of entertainment, but it looks more respectable in the eyes of the public because it at least pretends to engage issues, unlike what most of the rest of the entertainment industry does. At least Carville, before becoming a loudmouthed commentator, was a loudmouthed political strategist who knew how to win an election. I've never seen any sign that Novak knew how to do anything useful.

BTW, this is my first time reading your site, Lockjaw. I am very impressed. I'm just starting up my own blog, and hope you'll pay me a visit!

Looks like Novak might have been a bit over-lubricated perhaps after an extended lunch. I know I sometimes get angry when I've had a few pops. That's why now I only drink soda pop.

Carville and Matlin probably go make whoopie after nearly coming to heated blows after one of their many public debates. Novak was only whoopieing himself.

All-in-all I don't think somebody should be suspended for saying bullshit on the air -- that is unless the network is afraid of getting sued by Penn and Teller who seem to have cornered that market.

Posted by: Bob at August 5, 2005 11:32 PM

Novak allowed Carville to get under his skin. I don't really understand why- it isn't as if Novak should've been taken by surprise.
Carville plays hardball though. And sometimes he pitches inside. As I am almost always on the side Carville opposes, I respect him for being good at what he does, I admit I admire him for overcoming his obvious drawbacks but in this particular case Carville was out of line.
He is the one who stooped to a new low with his irrelevant comments leading to Novaks departure.

Thank goodness Robert Novak has not sunken to a level of sleaziness to actually sit there and listen to that bullshit.

I think EVERYTHING any conservative on TV tells me, is as close to the truth we have. I wish all liberals ill will because they all love Osama. I think anyone that disagrees with Robert Novak is a traitor to America. The same goes for Hannity. These men are true patriots that deserve to have their ideas taken seriously. They only have what's best for America on their minds without ever a thought for them selves.

Posted by: thompson at August 8, 2005 11:24 AM

You amaze me how stupid can you be the most dangerous man in america is george bush and liars like Novak hannity ORiely and threst of the brainless right

Posted by: albert at August 13, 2005 12:40 AM

Robert Novak deliberately and knowingly exposed a CIA agent. This is a clear and simple fact. He did so for retaliation. Robert Novak IS a traitor and should be not only fired-- he should be prosecuted.

Posted by: Rusty Cage at August 13, 2005 2:27 AM

Robert Novack should have just said in response "well, at least I'm not an ugly, bald headed, arrogant, yet, ignorant moran with nothing going for me but a loud mouth". But, of course, I am monday morning quaterbacking here. My opinion is Carville is so abrasive, and ugly, he doesn't even like himself
